I have painted similar scenes to this many times, sometimes just as a landscape. Sometimes I paint it with giraffe, elephant, or zebra. This scene is from my imagination, but it's one of my favorite impressions of Africa. With the huge open plains you can see for miles and the acacia trees stand out vividly. Almost every afternoon during the summer months the storm clouds will gather producing large cumulous nimbus clouds and in the late afternoons it inevitably rains with a violent thunderstorm. This to me is quintessential Africa.
