Renowned wildlife and Americana artist Terry Redlin left a tremendous legacy of beautiful art for generations to enjoy. In commemoration of his life and his lasting legacy, the Redlin Art Center is pleased to share “Early Morning Frost”, one of many unfinished paintings Redlin was working on before illness resulted in his early retirement.
In this image, we are mesmerized by the frost coated landscape illuminated by the yard light and the bright white glow of the rising sun on the horizon – its power soon will burn off the icy crystals that have settled overnight on every tree branch and blade of grass. We ponder what Terry would have added to this farmyard next. Would there have been waterfowl or maybe deer in the harvested cornfield? We see what looks like the back end of a boat with an outboard motor in the shed. Was this a sign that the farmer had fishing in mind? We marvel at the reflection of the farmyard in the water and know that the artist was just getting warmed up when he put down his brush the last time he touched “Early Morning Frost”.
